Call for Papers

The 10th symposium for the OOF-TAS Collective will be held online and in Glasgow. We will celebrate a decade of the OOFTAS Collective (previously the TAS Collective), sharing research, and sharing friendship through research.

The theme for the symposium is:

The current shortage of teachers in many countries have reached fever pitch! A consequence is a high incidence of teaching OOF, as well as alternative pathways (e.g., alternatively qualified teachers) into teaching in order to meet the demand for teachers. Our research is expanding to capture the urgency facing the teacher workforce world-wide. This theme highlights the need for research and collaboration across sectors, and state and national borders to understand, theorise and develop solutions to the out-of-field teaching phenomenon within the context of these broader workforce demands.

We welcome national and cross-national research and commentary on the policies, the people, and the effects associated with this phenomenon. Post-graduate students and early career researchers are welcome.

  • Registration Cost: Attending in person will incur a cost, TBC but no more than 50 Euros.

Glasgow

  • Day 1, August 20, will be completely online.

  • Day 2, August 21, will be blended, held in person at the University of Glasgow with video link for online delegates.

Online access

Zoom will be used for the online parts of the programs and for online delegates. Please register to get access to the zoom links with the program.

Recordings will be made of all presentations but not the discussions. The powerpoint presentations and/or the zoom recordings will be placed on the OOFTAS website after the presentation.

Preparing for the symposium

  1. We will undertake a blended symposium where online participants are zoomed into a located venue (TBC). You will be able to nominate how you intend to participate. You can change your preference through an email to Linda Hobbs l.hobbs@deakin.edu.au

  2. It is preferred that presenters give their presentation in real-time (either in person or online). If this is not possible we can play a pre-recorded presentation during the symposium.

  3. A timetable will be created that provides ‘best times’ for the presenters.

  4. With your permission, we would like to upload a recording of your presentation. The content will remain your IP.

Presenting and participating

  1. Everybody is welcome to attend the presentations. Please register and the zoom links will be emailed to you.

  2. Presentations:

    1. Presentations will be 20 minutes, presenting in person or online in real time.

    2. Question and answer time will be 10 minutes following the presentation. For online participants, questions and feedback by the audience can be posed using the Chat function and verbally. In-person participants can also join in on the online chat.
