Call for Papers
The 7th symposium for the OOF-TAS Collective will be held on 29-30 August 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of ECER, we are moving the symposium online.
The theme for the symposium is:
Out-of-field teaching across the teaching disciplines and contexts
Online Symposium
Powered by Zoom
Cost: Free
Key dates:
Submissions (presentations and book chapters) open till: July 15
Feedback on submission by: July 20
Registration opens: April 1
Program released: July 30
Online Symposium: 29-30 August
Program and presentations
This theme welcomes research and commentary relating to the out-of-field teaching phenomenon in primary, secondary and tertiary education, and in all subjects. We encourage submissions that report on research and contribute to our understanding of all aspects of the phenomenon. Post-graduate students and early career researchers are welcome.
The move to online will be an exciting development and allow for greater participation.
An outcome of this meeting will be to prepare a proposal for an edited book to be published in late 2021 that showcases the breadth and depth of research and theorising on out-of-field teaching emerging from the OOF-TAS Collective. The edited book will show that there is research happening worldwide that is contributing data, theorisation and insights that have implications for practice, research and policy.
Abstracts for the symposium and/or the edited book are welcome. We understand that not all people can attend the symposium (even now that it has moved online) but that you may have valuable research to share; therefore, please indicate whether your submission is for the book and/or the symposium.
For both:
Submissions due July 15
Feedback on the abstracts will be provided by Wednesday June 20 2020.
For the edited book:
The intention will be to collate the chapter abstracts into a proposal prior to the symposium so that we can collate the abstracts and make some decisions about the book layout, content and focus during the symposium. We will then send the proposal to Springer.
For the symposium:
The details of the symposium are as follows:

Online Symposium
Preparing for the symposium
We will move to an online platform, Zoom.
It is preferred that presenters give their presentation in real-time through Zoom. If this is not possible we can play a pre-recorded presentation during the symposium.
A timetable will be established that provides ‘best times’ for the presenters.
With your permission, we would like to upload some record of your presentation of your session (recording from zoom, powerpoint only).
Relationship to the Edited book:
We hope that the presentations will form chapters for our next edited book.
All recorded presentations would be stored on the OOF-TAS Collective website. This way the website can be an advertisement for our book. The presentations will not be made available to the public until after the book is published. We ask that you state your preference in a short online survey as part of your submission or registration.
Feedback to presenters can include suggestions for preparing the manuscript for the edited book. The feedback can be recorded and made available to the presenter, but this won’t be uploaded onto the website.
Presenting and participating
Everybody is welcome to attend the presentations.
Presentations in real-time (preferred way of presenting):
This will involve a 15 presentation in Zoom where you can share your screen with others and speak to your powerpoint presentation.
Engaging in discussion and feedback: A 10-minute question and answer section will follow the presentation. Also, questions and feedback by the audience can be posed using the Chat function in Zoom.
A session to discuss the edited book: A session will be scheduled to discuss the edited book – timelines, processes and other details.
